5 Ways to Stay Mindful Throughout Your Day

There was a time when all I focused on was on the things I didn't have. And, when I wasn't focusing on that, I was focused on fear-driven thoughts that predicted a terrifying future. This behavior had me always on edge and living by fear, instead of love. Over the years I learned mindful techniques that remind me to be present and to focus on what's right, instead of what's wrong.

5 Ways to Stay Mindful Throughout Your Day

Here are five ways you can begin to be more mindful so that you can live your days with peace and joy.

Tip # 1: Take a Breath

Breathing in and taking a moment of pause is one of the best ways to return your attention to the present. You can do it at any time, from anywhere. Taking in deep breaths produce calming effects in your brain, resulting in mood changes So, if you're feeling stressed, confused, or even tired, try taking in a few deep breaths and see what difference it makes in your mood.

Tip # 2: Connect With Your Senses

There's a lot of anxiety going around these days, and it if you suffer from it, you know how tough it is to live with it. I found one technique that helps during anxiety is to return to the truth of the moment by connecting to my senses. Whenever moments of angst begin to seep into your day, step back, close your eyes and tune in to your senses. What do you hear? What do you smell? Connecting to your senses will get you grounded and remind you that you're okay.

Tip # 3: Journaling

This is another buzz word running wild on social media these days, but with good reason. Journaling has a therapeutic effect. Instead of holding on to your troubles in your head, put them on the page. Once out of your head, you'll have room for peace and quiet to enter without conflict. Furthermore, you will likely find that what was troubling you isn't as bad as you thought. That's the power of journaling, you get clarity, and possibly even solutions to things you thought were too grand to handle.

Tip #4: Eat Well

We all know the benefits of eating a healthy, but what I mean by this is to become aware while you're enjoying your meals. Put down your phone, step away from your work and don't sit in front of the TV. In this week's YouTube video on this topic, I share a story on Kathy Bates on how she lost over 80 pounds through awareness. If you want to learn more watch here

Tip #5: Just Stop

Most of us lead very busy lives, but this doesn't mean you're being productive. Often times it just means you're running away from something that frightens you. By staying "busy" you avoid the true issue. With the internet at our fingertips, this usually means our business' are also within reach 24 hours a day. This is dangerous for our health and well being. Learn to listen to your body by practicing mindfulness. If you're feeling anxious, is it truly anxiety? Or, is it simply because you need a nap, or to eat, or take a walk? By learning to stop and listen to the signs your body is giving you, you will begin to live more peaceful and joyful days.

I hope you found these tips helpful. Let me know if you will put these tips into practice in the comments below.
